A former Greek Catholic church dedicated to St. Paraskewa in Lowcza

General

Type d'unité:

A former Greek Catholic church dedicated to St. Paraskewa, the present-day Catholic church, dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows was erected in 1808 on the initiative of Jan Matczynski, the lord of the village.

According to the founder’s will, the chapel was given the appearance of a Latin church, on a dual plan. In 1899, the chapel was thoroughly restructured and was given features of Orthodox churches – the dome was raised above the nave and the plan was given a third part: the women’s gallery. In the South-East of the chapel, a wooden bell tower stands, erected at the end of the 19th c.
